School children choose name for new street being built by TC Homes.

This month we are celebrating the naming of the street one of our latest housing developments is being built on.

Our building partners Citizen (formerly West Midlands Housing Group), approached Devonshire Junior Academy in Sandwell, to ask the school children to name the new road.

‘Symphony Drive’ was selected as the winning name for the road in Smethwick and Maja Kuzimska in Year 6 was one of the children who came up with it.

Maja said: “It was great fun to suggest names for the road and we suggested Symphony Drive because of Symphony Hall in Birmingham and it sounds like a lovely, happy place to live.”

Pupils and teachers from the school were present at the site to reveal the road name alongside staff Site Manager, Paul Bennett and Tim Charnley, Director of TC Homes.

Victoria Charnley, Director at TC Homes said: “We are big community supporters here at TC Homes and believe in championing local causes and projects wherever possible. 

“But we particularly love getting involved with schools because it’s always such a happy collaboration and we know that engaging with young people and giving them a voice is one of the best things we do to get them excited about and understanding business projects.

“We think that this idea, brought about by our building partners Citizen, was a fantastic one and we just love the name! It really does sound like a happy place to live!” 

Head of School at Devonshire Junior Academy, Elise Waldron, said: “We’re so pleased the road name suggested by our pupils was chosen and we didn’t expect it at all.

“Our pupils will always remember being a part of naming the road. This is something I’m sure they’ll always remember as they grow up. Well done to all the children who took part in coming up with the name.”

The £2.4 million development will be a mix of two and three-bedroom homes, with 11 being shared ownership and 11 affordable rent homes, via West Midlands Housing Association and will offer affordable options for future residents. They are expected to be completed by June 2020.
